I’m curious, what would happen if I increase the bitrate of this -> https://audiofullcast.org/audio-books/widdershins-adventures-series-1-4-graphicaudio-128-ari-marmell/
to 256kbps and change the format? let’s say for example m4b?

Hi TAKENODA, by making the changes you describe you would greatly increase the file size of the download, without improving the quality of the audio. In fact, because the process of re-encoding the audio would cause some, slight, decrease in sound quality.
As to why increasing the bit rate wouldn’t improve the audio quality, imagine that you have a recording of a song recorded by someone with a bad cold and a stuffy nose. Increasing the bandwidth isn’t going to cure that cold.
As to the loss of quality (information) inherent in the (re)encoding process,there are “lossless codecs”, Flac is a good example, which encode audio without information/audio quality loss. We don’t tend to use those encoders, because they generate larger file sizes.
You mentioned changing the format to M4B. With M4B, files the audio stored in MPEG-4 and compressed using the AAC encoding. AAC’s work of compressing (shrinking that file size) includes, in part, leaving out data that can be left out without the listener noticing (much). But some information is sacrificed in favor of smaller file size.
The M4B format is often a good choice for audiobook because the M4B format supports audiobook friendly bookmarking and chapter breaks.
